Partnership requirements

The objective of the Firm is to keep on co-opting the best associates, who have been trained by the firm, as partners.

The partnership requirements, which have been established in order to achieve perfect transparency, are the following:

    Technical knowledge:

  • Recognition of a deep technical knowledge : on an internal level, by the other lawyers, on an external level, by the clients,
  • Legal expertise;
  • Strategic and tactical skills;
  • Concise and clear writing;
  • Perfect command of the English language.

    Management skills:

  • Supervising a team;
  • Dealing with clients and fees;
  • Participating in the management of the firm.

    Combining great individual skills with team work experience:

  • Promoting team work;
  • Promoting a team spirit.

    Affectio societatis:

  • Fellow feeling, trust;
  • Common values;
  • Willingness to work together on the long-run.

    Clientele:

  • A condition that is neither sufficient nor necessary;
  • A lawyer who could bring in clients but who does not fulfil the other requirements (with particular regard to expertise) could not become a partner.

Lawyers

Bersay & Associés looks for the brightest and most motivated candidates who satisfy the following criteria:
  • an excellent academic and professionnal record,
  • a very good command of English,
  • values that are close to those of Bersay & Associés, in particular as regards “team spirit” and shared human qualities (Bersay & Associés’ organizational values are described in the Presentation of the Firm).
Training of our lawyers is one of the strengths of the Firm, which prefers to promote partners from within. The partnership criteria are described above.

Trainees

Bersay & Associés offers traineeships to students nearing the end of their university curriculum, especially those who are enrolled in the program of study at the bar preparation school (Ecole de Formation du Barreau). However, this is not an essential condition to apply for a traineeship and we invite other qualified students to submit their applications.

Recruitment of trainees is based upon similar criteria to those applied for the recruitment of lawyers.

Trainees actively participate in the work and life of the Firm.

Bersay & Associés makes every effort to train the trainees and to ensure that they are well integrated into the Firm, with a view to recruiting the best among them at the end of their traineeship.
